Literacy in Learning (30 Hours)
In its most basic form, literacy is the ability to read and write. To be successful in academics, professional and social life, one must be proficient at both reading and writing. Businesses and professional demands require literacy skills.
Literacy in Learning is designed to help NC teachers meet the standards and requirements of the North Carolina State Board of Education related to Literacy. Teachers will be taught ideas and techniques to present evidence-based assessment, diagnosis and intervention strategies for students who are not demonstrating reading proficiency, grounded in the Science of Reading.
This course encourages teachers in North Carolina make use of literacy-related activities including evidence‑based reading instruction practices that address the acquisition of language, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling, fluency, vocabulary, oral language, and comprehension that can be differentiated to meet the needs of individual students.
