How do I renew a teaching certificate in Georgia?
The Georgia Professional Standards Commission published this updated and detailed information for educators with relevant research, resources and processes that support the new renewal requirements.
If you are employed by a Georgia public school system, your certificate must be renewed electronically by your employing system. Please contact your system’s Human Resources department for more information.
If you are employed by another LUA or are not employed, you can submit the renewal application accessible via your MyPSC account.
What state requirements does a teacher in GA need to meet for renewal?
All Professional Learning Board courses include a free PD Tracker.
Renewal requirements for certificates that are currently valid must have been completed during the validity period established on the certificate. Renewal requirements for expired certificates must have been completed within the five (5)-year period preceding the date of renewal application.
Teachers not employed in a Georgia LUA at the time of renewal have the following renewal options:
- Six (6) semester hours of college course work. Teachers receive an official transcript from a regionally accredited university.
- Ten (10) Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Ten (10) contact hours are the equivalent of one (1) CEU.
Teachers employed in a Georgia LUA at the time of renewal must complete an individualized Professional Learning Plan or Professional Learning Goal coordinated with their supervisor and employing LUA.
