How do I renew a teaching license in Wyoming?
As of March 4th, 2025, the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board is working on launching a new online license renewal system.
Teachers use online professional development and continuing education courses to renew a teaching license in WY. Professional Learning Board is a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (PSTB) approved workshop provider.
All Wyoming educators are required to complete Professional Development/Renewal Credits in order to renew a license or permit. Renewal requirements vary depending on the type of license or permit an applicant holds. The requirements for renewing your specific license or permit are listed on the reverse side of the license or permit itself. Please review your license or permit prior to submitting a renewal application to ensure you have met all renewal requirements for your specific license or permit type.

What state requirements does a teacher in WY need to meet for renewal?
All Professional Learning Board courses include a free PD Tracker.
To renew a Wyoming Educator Permit, 5 renewal credits will be required to renew. Most license types are valid for 5 years.
While no longer offered, if a teacher currently holds a Wyoming Professional Educator License, they are required to submit 10 renewal credits and the license is valid for 10 years.
According to the WY Department of Education, Wyoming teachers can complete professional development courses by following these easy steps:
- Online self-study pre-approved contact hour courses for renewal credit.
- Online self-paced semester graduate credit classes from a regionally accredited university.
How does a teacher in WY reinstate an expired teaching license?
Reinstatement is for any applicant who has previously held a permit in Wyoming and is seeking reinstatement of that expired permit. Reinstatement applicants must complete five (5) semester hours of either PTSB approved workshop credits or college courses from an accredited institution of higher education.
Is there an alternate route to obtain a Wyoming Substitute Teacher Permit?
Yes, applicants without an Associates Degree may use an alternate route to obtain a Wyoming Substitute Teacher Permit. Applicants must complete 24 total hours of in-service training. Districts or BOCES may authorize substitute teaching candidates to meet this requirement by taking PTSB-approved workshops.
