How do I keep and renew a teaching certificate in Rhode Island?
Teachers use online professional development and continuing education courses to renew a teaching certificate in RI. According to the RIDE, the new requirements apply to full certificates – Initial, Professional, or Advanced – that are up for renewal in 2020.
The number of Professional Learning Units (PLUs) required will be prorated in 2020. Therefore, progression of Initial certificates to Professional certificates will require 20 PLUs. Renewal of Professional certificates will require 15 PLUs and progression to Advanced certificates will require 15 PLUs AND the completion of an aspirational benchmark.
